Fire Service

Monterey Township contracts with Salem Township for fire protection for the north-western portion of the township while Hopkins Area Fire Department, of which Monterey is part owner, covers the remainder.


Prior to any burning you must obtain a burn permit by calling 269/686-5222

Salem Township has received a grant to install smoke detectors in homes that currently do not have them. Please use this form to apply for a free smoke detector. Please note that some restrictions may apply.


Monterey Township recently voted to accept the Allegan County Hazard Mitigation Plan. As a result the Monterey Township board shall:

  • Encourage all township residents to visit firewise.org and follow the instructions to reduce fire risk on your property.
  • Work with Allegan County to map all gas/oil pipelines in the township
  • Restrict and discourage all new development on properties that are adjoining the Allegan State Game Area.
